Ayo Akingbade

Ayo Akingbade is an artist, writer and film director living and working in London. She works predominantly with film and installation addressing themes of power, urban space and stance.

Akingbade engages with the fluid boundaries between the self and the other by gathering local and cultural experiences in intimate and playful interpretations. The artist and her protagonists move through concrete, rustic and institutional spaces, reflecting on the influence of geography on a personal sense of place and identity. As well as personal occurences informed by Akingbade's interests in colour, printmaking, geometry and portraiture.
She has exhibited her work extensively, most recently in solo exhibitions at Chisenhale Gallery, Museum of the Home and Whitechapel Gallery, London. Group presentations and shows include: Lisson Gallery, London; Towner Gallery, Eastbourne; MoMA, New York and Instituto Tomi Ohtake, Sao Paulo.

Akingbade previously studied at Royal Academy Schools and London College of Communication.
