FF Projects is proud to announce Call and Response, a publication accompanying the exhibition of the same name by Nigerian-British artists Remi Ajani and Hamed Maiye at Alára Lagos. Built around three intimate conversations between the two artists, the book opens their thinking process to readers and invites a chorus of voices across generations to speak to their lives, experiences, desires and dreams in different eras.

Moving between Nigeria and England, Call and Response follows connected threads: personal and familial memory, mythologies and the act of creating one's own realities, and the dance between the transparent and the opaque. Ajani and Maiye push back against the stories we have collectively agreed to believe and ask a central question: why participate in a story that doesn't care for you when you can create your own? The contributors answer with memories of growing up at UNILAG in the 1970s, the return of Mami Wata, the power of indigenous religion, the craftsmanship of returnees, ever-stylish grandparents, soft childhood Sundays, the ancestral wisdom of aunties and the everyday beauty of Lagos.

Part archive, part act of myth-making, this collectible volume features a foreword by Faridah Folawiyo, three conversations between Remi Ajani and Hamed Maiye, and multimedia contributions from an intergenerational roster of Nigerian cultural figures, including Alayo Akinkugbe, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Duro Olowu, Faridah Folawiyo, Hamed Maiye, Kelechi Anabaraonye, Olukemi Lijadu, Oluwatobiloba Ajayi, Remi Ajani, Remi Vaughan-Richards, Reni Folawiyo, and Tosin Adeosun.
