FF Projects X Nigerian Modernism
Corner Bar at Tate Modern
9 & 31 October, 22 November, 2025

On the occasion of Nigerian Modernism, FF Projects presented a three-part residency at Tate Modern, occupying The Corner Bar across three evenings between October and November. Developed in dialogue with the exhibition, the residency built on the spirit of the Nigerian modernist era to explore its enduring influence on contemporary Nigerian creativity through music, moving image, and archival research.

The first evening on 9 October featured a live performance by visual and sound artist Olukemi Lijadu (Kem Kem), whose practice treats music as a living archive of communal memory, alongside an archival presentation by Bunmi Fabode, whose research connects textiles, political science, and cultural histories. The second evening, presented as part of Tate Late on 31 October, expanded the residency through performances by London-based DJ, curator, and broadcaster JJess, founder of Dancefloor Theory; global African music platform Sample Chief; and DJ and broadcaster Tone, whose work centres music from the African continent and its diaspora. The final evening on 22 November brought the residency full circle with a DJ set by British-Nigerian DJ and curator Kikelomo, spinning Nigerian psychedelic funk from the 1970s, alongside a renewed presentation of Bunmi Fabode’s archives.

Taking place during Tate’s extended hours, the series invited audiences to experience the exhibition alongside live sound and archival materials, connecting historical and present-day Nigeria in a vibrant celebration of global Black cultural exchange.
